Read this Month's Issue

Spring is the traditional time to remove the winter blues from your home and make it ready for summer. The sun is out, the crocuses are blooming, and it's time to get our act together. Here at Breath and Shadow, we've pulled down the holiday decorations and washed the layers of mud and sand from the front hall. We've straightened and pitched, dusted and vacuumed, and discovered some manuscripts which somehow got buried in the clutter.

This month's issue leads off with a thought provoking poem by Louie Crew in the form of a classified ad. Dear One, a short story by Kathleen O'Connor, shows the struggle of a young woman who feels isolated after her engagement is broken. In his poems, Nikki and Bathroom Visitor, Michael Lee Johnson reflects on some of the inhabitants of his apartment. With her creative non–fiction piece, Tales of a Magic Fairy, Ria Strong gives a glimpse into her life with a mother suffering from dementia and a nephew who is autistic. Award–winning writer, Madeleine Parish, explores the complexities of family roles and dynamics in her essay, The Birthday Party. This issue concludes with a truly spring–like poem, Basket Full of Memories, by Cindy Prince.
